How the Guild Vetting Works

The Guild of Builders and Contractors maintains high standards by carefully reviewing every applicant before membership is granted.

Our vetting process is designed to ensure that Members demonstrate the experience, professionalism and financial stability required to carry out building work responsibly.

Only applicants who meet the Guild’s standards are accepted as Members, and those standards must continue to be maintained each year.

Initial Membership Assessment

Before becoming a Guild Member, applicants must demonstrate that they operate a reputable and established business within the construction industry.

The Guild reviews a range of information to assess an applicant’s suitability, including their experience, professional conduct and financial stability.

Applicants must also demonstrate that they trade with integrity and have a proven track record of delivering work to a satisfactory standard.

Client References

Applicants are required to provide references from recent clients who can confirm the quality of their work and their professionalism during the project.

These references help the Guild understand how the applicant operates in real projects and provide insight into reliability, communication and overall client satisfaction.

Financial and Business Stability

The Guild seeks assurance that applicants operate financially stable businesses capable of delivering projects responsibly.

Applicants may be required to provide supporting financial information and professional references as part of the application process.

This helps ensure that Members are able to undertake projects with the appropriate level of business stability.

Insurance and Professional Standards

Guild Members must maintain appropriate insurance cover relevant to the work they undertake.

They must also demonstrate that their work complies with recognised construction standards and professional practices.

Members are expected to operate with integrity, professionalism and respect for clients, their property and their project requirements.

Annual Due Diligence

Membership is not granted permanently.

Guild Members are required to maintain the standards expected of them, and due diligence checks are carried out periodically to ensure these standards continue to be met.

This ongoing review helps maintain the reputation and integrity of the Guild and protects the interests of clients.

Maintaining the Guild Standard

All Members must comply with the Guild’s Code of Conduct and uphold the standards expected of a professional builder.

Failure to maintain these standards may lead to disciplinary action, including the removal of Guild membership.
